Here are four little things that will surely have a big impact on your lifestyle. Number one. Replace refined carbohydrates with whole grains. Carbohydrates are the most important source of energy for the body. The question is, what makes them bad? If consumed in large amounts, carbs may lead to weight gain. During digestion, the end product of carbohydrates is glycogen. A single glycogen molecule holds a significant amount of water. A gram of glycogen stores approximately 2.7 grams of water. Although it’s just water, it still adds weight. Whole grains such as barley, brown rice, oatmeal and wheat bread are packed with nutrients as well as protein. Eating whole grains leads to better weight maintenance.
Number two. Change the proportion of meals. We place our desired amount food on our plates. Actually, there are proper ways on how to portion our servings. A breakfast plate must contain 40% fruit, 20% protein, and 40% whole grains. Start the day with lots of energy-giving food. This keeps you on the go for the rest of the day. Next, a lunch plate. This must contain the same amount of fat, protein and whole grains as the breakfast plate. This keeps your metabolism up and running. Finally, the dinner plate. Sweets, proteins, and carbohydrates should be cut-off. The dinner plate comprises of 50% fruits, 25% protein, and 25% whole grains. Dietitians recommend that dinner should be eaten before six in the evening to allow the body to digest what was consumed.
Number three. Water, water, water and more water! Fill your body with lots of liquids. Common knowledge says that the body is about 70% water. The majority of our blood and cells are composed of water. Water is needed to function properly. Drinking water helps you concentrate and focus. Not to mention, energy levels are boosted. If you want to lose weight, drink water throughout the day, every day! This promotes weight loss by speeding up metabolism and the breakdown of fats. Water flushes out toxins and keeps your skin hydrated. This gives a fresh rejuvenating look and improves your overall complexion. The body’s immune system is also boosted and is also a natural headache remedy. Proper hydration also prevents cramps and sprains. It does this by lubricating muscles to keep them elastic. Remember to drink more than three liters of water a day.
Number four. Eat slowly and never skip a meal. In this fast paced world, we forget to enjoy our food. To avoid being late at work or school, we tend to skip breakfast. To make-up for lost time in complying requirements, we skip either lunch or dinner. This habit is very common and usually unavoidable. However, this does a great deal of negativity to our body. The tendency when you eat fast is that you might think that you consumed your meal too fast and eat more at a later time. Meanwhile, you can get lots of benefits if you just sit down, relax and enjoy your meal. Eating slowly stimulates the stomach to better digest what’s being taken in. In turn, you can lose and maintain your weight easily. This also makes you feel more satisfied.
